White Family

The French and Indian War lasted from 1754 to 1763 and was the North American phase of the Seven Years' War.

Joseph White, Sr. was born on December 14, 1734 in Haverhill, Essex County, Massachusetts. His parents were Nicholas White and Mary Calef.

Joseph married Sarah Noyes. Sarah was the daughter of James Noyes, Jr. and Sarah Little of Newbury, Massachusetts.

Joseph and Sarah's children probably included:

Joseph White, Jr. (1761, married Mary Olmstead),
Hannah White (married David Kilborn)
John White (1770, married Lucy Kilborn)
Abigail White (married Truman Stone)
Mary (Polly) White Bissell
Lydia White (married Duncan Livingston).

Joseph was one of the original grantees of Newbury, Vermont in 1763.

Joseph was as a lieutenant in the French and Indian War and was a major in the militia.

During the American Revolution, Joseph remained loyal to the Crown. He became a member of the Loyal Rangers under Captain Sherwood. His son, Joseph, Jr., served with him.

In 1784 moved his family to Canada where they were early settlers of Augusta Township.

Joseph White of Elizabethtown in the District of Johnstown, Farmer, because he came not now here to answer to a Bill of Indictment preferred against him for an Assault, on the complaint of Jeremiah C. Allan as by a certain recognizance taken before Richd Arnold Esquire one of the Justices of our Said Lord the King, assigned to Keep the Peace in the said District of Johnstown he undertook, he has forfeited the sum of twenty pounds

The 1821 census of Elizabethtown listed Joseph, Sr and Sarah in the house of their grandson, John White, who was Joseph, Jr.'s son.

Joseph Sr. died in 1823.

United Empire Loyalists were Americans who remained loyal to King George III and the British Empire. They moved to Canada after the American Revolution.

Connecticut's first European settlers were Dutch.

John White was born about 1770 in Newbury, Orange County, Vermont. He was the son of Joseph White, Sr., and Sarah Noyes.

He married Lucy Kilborn. Lucy was born on March 17, 1773 in Litchfield, Connecticut, and came to Canada before 1790 with her parents Lucy Bishop and Benjamin Kilborn.

Joseph White (married Mary Berry),
John Eli White,
Amelia White,
Abigail White,
Henry Rueben Sherwood White,
and James Noyce White.

John died about 1817.
